Standards of Practice and Confidentiality
How BCA handles client information and works with prospects and clients.
This page describes BCA’s standard operating procedures for handling client information and structuring engagements. It is provided for reference. Specific contractual terms are set out in the BCA Consulting Engagement Agreement, which controls in case of any inconsistency.
01. Confidentiality
BCA’s standard practice is to treat client information as confidential and proprietary, with access limited to BCA team members assigned to your inquiry or engagement. BCA will not knowingly sell, share, or disclose client information to third parties, except as you authorize, as required by law or formal legal process, or as required to protect against imminent harm or fraud.
02. Client-First Commitment
BCA’s standard practice is to work in the client’s interest. BCA avoids representing multiple clients with conflicting interests in the same engagement and does not accept compensation from third parties tied to the specific recommendations made to a client. When BCA coordinates with licensed partners, the partner relationship is disclosed to the client.
03. Experienced Business Advisors
BCA brings more than 35 years of direct operating experience to every engagement, drawing on work in business operations, accounting systems, regulatory compliance, and tax and corporate strategy across startups, mid-market, and public-company environments. Our practice is built on judgment from running businesses.
04. Independence and Accountability
BCA is not a law firm, a CPA firm, or a registered financial advisor, and BCA does not provide licensed legal, tax-preparation, audit, or financial advisory services. BCA operates within all applicable federal and state laws governing business advisory work. BCA’s accountability runs to the client first, supported by partnerships with qualified licensed professionals when licensed services are required for an engagement.
05. Reliance and Client Responsibility
BCA provides business advisory information and operational support based on its experience. Decisions and actions taken in response to BCA’s information remain the client’s responsibility. The client is responsible for verifying any specific legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory matter with a qualified licensed professional before acting on it.
06. Information Retention
Prospect intake information is retained only as long as needed to evaluate the inquiry. If no engagement results, that information is destroyed or deleted in accordance with BCA’s records retention policy. Engagement information is retained for the duration of the engagement and a reasonable period afterward to support follow-up, audit assistance, and any licensed-partner work that depends on it.
07. AI Use
BCA’s standard practice is to process client and confidential information using locally-hosted AI tools that do not transmit data to public AI services. Public AI tools may be used by BCA for general research, formatting, and similar non-confidential tasks. We advise clients to avoid sharing personal or business information with public AI services that do not provide a no-training, no-retention policy. As a separate service offering, BCA can help clients set up private AI environments inside their own organizations.
08. Educational Disclaimer
The information provided by BCA is for general educational purposes and does not constitute licensed legal, tax, financial, insurance, or other professional advice. When personalized advice is required, BCA refers to and partners with qualified licensed professionals to serve the client’s best interest. Laws and regulations change frequently; while BCA aims for accuracy and timeliness, no warranty is given as to completeness or current applicability.
