Business Owners
BCA helps business owners with the everyday work, the recurring challenges, and the high-impact strategy decisions that come with running a business. We do not provide legal services, financial investment advice, or other specialized licensed services. We provide the consulting, education, and operational support that helps you make the best decisions about all of those things, and we coordinate with the licensed firms who do. Use the CONTACT option above to tell us about your business and what you are working on.
Gig Workers and Independent Contractors
We work with independent contractors and gig-economy operators on the licensing, entity, and tax-strategy questions that traditional employees never face. The right structure can save thousands a year. The wrong structure can cost you a license or worse. We help you pick the structure and run it correctly, and we coordinate with licensed partners when a filing or formal opinion is needed.
Business Entity
BCA can review with you the types of business entities available and assist you in choosing and creating the most advantageous entity for your business. We can walk you through all the filing requirements for business formation and incorporation including what costs would be incurred to get your business created properly.
Licensing
All businesses need at least basic licensing. A license demonstrates your commitment to legal compliance and adds credibility, helping to attract customers and partners. Furthermore, obtaining a license helps you avoid legal penalties, fines, and potential closure of your business. In addition, many localities require a license for funding, permitting, and other activities, so it’s crucial to ensure that your business is properly licensed.
Insurance
Whether to carry insurance is a business decision, and we help you think through the business implications rather than the policy details. We look at how being insured can build customer trust and loyalty, satisfy what landlords, lenders, and contract partners often require before they will work with you, and protect the business as a going concern, and we note where an industry or government requirement may apply. What BCA does not do is recommend a specific policy, carrier, or coverage amount. When you are ready to select and price actual coverage, we bring in a licensed insurance professional for that individualized advice.
Tax Strategies
Tax strategy done well is one of the highest-leverage moves a business owner makes. We work with owners on the entity-level decisions, the timing windows, the deduction posture, and the planning conversations that compound over years. Our experience runs from first-year startups to public-company audits, so the strategy we build with you is tested across the stage your business is in and the stage it is heading into.
Contract Review
BCA is a business consulting firm that specializes in contract review. We are not a legal firm and do not offer specific legal advice, but our team has extensive experience creating and reviewing contracts that meet our clients’ business strategies. When a contract needs licensed legal review, we partner with the client and the client’s legal counsel as a three-way working group, surfacing the business intent and the strategic context up front so the legal scope stays focused and the engagement runs efficiently. We also maintain a library of business-education templates, including Non-Disclosure Agreements and Sales Contracts.
Intellectual Property
BCA consultants have worked through creating intellectual property in multiple business categories. IP is the lifeblood of most businesses. When a filing or an opinion requires a licensed IP attorney, we coordinate a three-way working group with the client and the attorney, framing the business strategy and the protection priorities up front so the legal application is focused and efficient. We have working relationships with multiple IP attorneys and can recommend one if you need an introduction.
Tax Matters
BCA helps business owners understand the business implications of tax-related decisions through one-on-one consulting, how a choice may affect cash flow, entity structure, and day-to-day operations, and what to take to a licensed professional. Tax law is complex and changes frequently, so we keep our role to general business education and do not provide personalized tax advice or recommend a specific tax position. When a situation calls for individualized advice, licensed representation, or a formal filing, we work with a network of licensed tax professionals, including tax preparers and tax attorneys. We discuss with you up front what is needed and why, then run an interactive handoff so you, BCA, and the partner firm are all clear on responsibilities and scope from the start.
Bookkeeping & Accounting
Operational Accounting Support, Built On Decades of Systems Experience
BCA provides general bookkeeping and accounting services for small and mid-sized businesses. We set up and support QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, and other accounting systems, and we handle the day-to-day work that keeps your books accurate, current, and ready for tax season or an audit.
What we handle directly
- Accounting system setup and configuration. QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, and other platforms. We configure the chart of accounts, classes, locations, sales tax, payroll integrations, and reporting tools to match how your business actually operates.
- Conversions and migrations. Moving from one accounting system to another, consolidating multiple entities into a single ledger, or cleaning up an inherited set of books that has drifted out of shape.
- Ongoing bookkeeping. Monthly close, transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliations, accounts receivable and payable, payroll review, and 1099 vendor tracking and preparation.
- Business intelligence reporting. Monthly management reports built on the books we keep, including profit and loss by segment or location, cash flow trends, key operating ratios, and the practical scorecard a business owner needs to make decisions during the year, not just at year end.
- Tax-season preparation. Year-end close, document organization, schedule preparation, and packaging the books in the format your tax preparer or CPA actually wants, so the handoff is fast and the bill is smaller.
- Controls and documentation. Practical internal controls, segregation of duties guidance, and documentation that supports audit readiness, financing requests, and due diligence for owners thinking about a sale.
How we work with CPAs, tax preparers, and tax attorneys
BCA partners with a network of CPA firms, tax preparers, and tax attorneys to give clients a complete service path. When your situation calls for licensed work, we sit down with you up front to discuss the need and the reasoning, then run an interactive handoff that brings BCA, the partner firm, and you into a three-way working partnership. The result is a clearer engagement, a tighter licensed-work scope, and a lower total cost than engaging a single CPA firm for full-service bookkeeping plus tax work.
- BCA front-ends the work, collecting, organizing, and formatting the financial information your engagement requires, so the licensed firm starts from a clean baseline instead of billing hours to assemble it.
- Our partner firms handle the licensed work: tax return filings, audited financials, formal legal opinions, and any task that requires a CPA license, an Enrolled Agent, or a licensed attorney.
- All three parties stay in the loop on responsibilities, deliverables, and timing, so there are no surprises about who is doing what for your business or what the engagement costs.
Transparency note. BCA is a business compliance education, operational guidance, document review support, and process consulting firm. BCA is not a law firm, CPA firm, tax advisor, insurance agency, or investment advisor; when a situation calls for licensed work, BCA partners with outside CPA firms, tax preparers, and tax attorneys whose accountability runs to their licensing bodies. Our standard practice is to disclose partnership relationships up front, discussing the need and the reasoning, and to run an interactive handoff that brings BCA, the partner firm, and you into a three-way working partnership. Depending on the engagement, partner guidance can flow through BCA, or directly to you through a three-way working partnership when licensed advice must come directly from the partner firm. With BCA, you have visibility into who is doing what for your business and a single advisory relationship guiding the engagement. Newman Law is of counsel to BCA. Legal advice comes from Newman Law through BCA to our joint clients; see our Legal Services page for the firm’s scope and direct contact information. Decisions taken on BCA’s information remain the client’s, and we encourage verifying any specific legal, tax, or regulatory matter with a qualified licensed professional before acting. For BCA’s full standards-of-practice and AI policy, see our Standards of Practice page.
